Our welsh adventure - days 9 & 10......Escaping the rain and chasing the sun

When we arrived at Tenby it was such a beautiful day! The BBC forecasted rain....but the sun shone all day long. It was perfect!

We arrived to the campsite....Meadow Farm Campsite, which is situated on the hill above the North Beach. It has stunning views over Tenby and Caldey Island. The campsite is basic, but the lack of many rules gave it a more relaxed atmosphere.

We could park our MH which ever way suited us and there were no marked out pitches. The site is uneven, although I found a perfectly flat spot first time, this was because you weren't restricted to specific spaces. I would recommend that you either carry levelling wedges or a 25m hook up cable so you can get a level spot.

We paid £25 for one night including has a basic shower/toilet block, but I think there are plans to upgrade them. You can walk to the town centre in 10 minutes or so...the walk back up to the campsite takes a bit longer! Before we went anywhere we just sat and relaxed in the lovely warm sun for an hour and appreciated the stunning views!

There is so much to see and do in Tenby! As it was midweek and out of season a few bars/restaurants were closed...I can imagine it gets a lot busier on the weekends and summer months...but it was perfect when we were there. Just the right amount of people taking in the sunshine to give a nice atmosphere and it was such a lovely day that it felt like we could have been in the Mediterranean!

We walked around, sat, watched, ate, sat some more..... for about 5 hours...and walked for about 5 miles in total! Whilst a lot of the beaches are restricted for dogs, the town is very dog friendly, with lots of water bowls available and many benches for you to sit and let them rest in the shade.

The website for the campsite is: and I would definitely recommend get much more of a 'camping experience'.

This morning we woke up to bucketing down rain! It was so wet I didn't even get out of the MH! Poor hubby was delegated to emptying the toilet cassette and filling up with water! Our plan was to move on to Pembroke before heading to St. Davids and then north.

By the time we got to Pembroke the rain was worse! We parked up under the bridge at Pembroke Dock and made some bacon rolls whilst we decided our next move....we didn't want to spend the last 4 days in rain like this...and that was what was forecasted!

We decided to head back east towards Cardiff and do the bit of coastline east from Ogmore. By the time we got to Carmarthen it had stopped raining...and we didn’t see rain for the rest of the day....and that is the beauty of travelling in a can change your plans whenever you want!

Tonight we have a lovely park up spot at Merthyr Mawr. The spot is marked up on the Search for Sites app. It is right next to the River Ogmore and has a view of the Castle. It has a lovely walk to the castle and perfect for walking dogs.

There was a few cars coming and going earlier on....but right now there is just us.....and curiously a peacock I’m sure I can hear nearby....I hope it lets us get some sleep!

  1. Stunning part of the world. We explored Tenby last year and can't wait to go back. Just finished Whitemill, Ferryside, Kidwelly, Pembrey country park and the Gower peninsula which we blogged about. Currently in Yorkshire but I think the weather is going to be a bit rubbish everywhere this week.
